Not everyone grew up using computers. And lots of folks find the prospect of learning new technology just a little bit frightening, confusing and frustrating. Many of our customers say they feel “stuck” because they don't have computer-savvy friends or family who can show them how to use today’s modern communication applications (called “apps”) like Skype. That’s why we have created this program that will teach you to use Skype – in simple steps, using regular language and in a video that you can go back and watch as many times as you need for reminders whenever you need them! Being able to see your growing grandchildren, staying in touch with old friends – and see them laugh as well as hear them – is so liberating! And now we’re going to show you that it’s easy too!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Audrey and I live in the sunny state of Florida with my family. My father is 76 and he lives 600 miles away from me. He was eager to learn how to use Skype so he could talk to family whenever he was feeling lonely.
I had great fun teaching my Dad and it was something we both learned from – I learned that the older generation still have the same hopes and dreams as we do and enjoy having a good belly laugh with those they love, and my Dad learned (very quickly) how simple it was to turn on the computer and have a family member there, where we could share stories about out day.
My Dad had knowledge of computers, but struggled with the Social side of things. He did not always know what to click on, and was a fraid of making his information too public. He was afraid his personal information may end up in the wrong hands. After learning how to use Skype, he quickly came to see that he did not have to be afraid and that Skype really can bring the whole world right to your fingertips. In the past he would have probably said ‘I’m not interested in this new-fangled stuff – we didn’t need them in my day!’ Nowadays he’s more likely to ask me if I’ve seen the latest update!
And that’s when I first had the idea – an idea which would enable people to be able to use Skype properly and speak with their loved ones, whenever they wanted to. I started to develop a course which would teach people how to use Skype as a valuable tool and not only one which would mean they could speak with their family, but could also contact long-lost friends.
