Facebook for beginners

Dear Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa or anyone that knows they need to learn Facebook to stay connected with their loved ones.

Do you feel like the only way to catch up with or see pictures of your kids or grandkids is to join Facebook?

Are you missing moments in their lives because they post it all over Facebook and forget to tell you about it?

Are you tired of hearing, “I posted it on Facebook, you just need to join so you can see it!” Or how about you’re at a family gathering and everyone is talking about the latest thing they saw on their Newsfeed and you’re left out wandering what the heck is a Newsfeed?

Well guess what? YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

It seems that many others who are in the 55+ age group are flocking to Facebook also. According to the Pew Internet 62% of online adults ages 65 and older now use Facebook.
That is a 14-point increase from the 48% who reported doing so in 2015.
Can you imagine how many more people will be on Facebook in the next two years?
Here’s the thing though…
Facebook can be Confusing…but it doesn’t have to be!
In 2013 I started seeing a lot of my mom and dad’s friends joining Facebook. One of their close friends posted a very personal message to another friend’s wall where everyone could read it.
This friend of theirs thought she was sending this message privately and had no idea everyone could see it and read it.
That’s when I knew I had to put together a quick overview of how Facebook works and walk beginners through the process of using it.
I created the video, posted it on YouTube, titled it Beginners Guide to Facebook through this Video Tutorial and was blown away by the number of views, likes and comments I was receiving.
Two years later I posted an Updated Beginners guide to Facebook (2015) and still the need was growing.
Do you know that these two videos alone have been viewed over Half a Million times with an overwhelming thumb’s up and positive comments?
And guess what the number one age group is that have been flocking to watch these videos is?
You got it…the 55+ community!
Although these videos have helped hundreds of thousands of people understand Facebook…there were still so many questions that were left unanswered.
UNTIL NOW!!

If staying connected with your family and friends isn’t enough to want to learn Facebook how about this…
Did you know that Social Connections are essential for long term mental and cognitive health?
Yep…that’s right…The University of Arizona did a study in 2013 that showed online friending may boost cognitive function AND that older adults who learned to use Facebook showed a 25% improvement in their working memory!
That means that while friending, reading post, sharing posts, looking at photos, following links is helping YOUR MEMORY!
What an awesome thing to have happen!
And you just thought Facebook was a place to keep up with the kids and grandkids. ?
Alright Audrey, I get it…It’s time for me to stop kicking against the prick, I want a working memory so…
Let’s Get Started! (Make this a button)
Now that we’ve chatted about using Facebook to stay connected with family and friends and how it helps your memory let’s talk about the one thing you don’t hear about to often.
Loneliness and Depression
My mom and dad had been married for 41 years when, in 2006, mom was called home to be with The Lord.
Dad didn’t keep the house in Florida, he moved into the Armed Forces Retirement home up in DC and eventually transferred down to the one in Mississippi.
Us 6 kids were scattered all over The United States so it was hard to visit Dad but you know what allowed us to stay in contact almost daily?
Facebook…and Skype but let me tell you…Dad lives on Facebook. He looks so forward to the pictures, the videos, the posts we all make and he LOVES reading the comments we receive from others.
It’s no wonder…A 2010 National panel study from Carnegie Mellon University showed that increasing Internet use by communicating with family and friends 3-5 days a week was associated with a decrease in depression
By using Facebook to:
Play Games
Joining Interest Groups
Sharing photos with Family
Making new friends around common interest
Connecting with old Friends
It’s not only enriching your digital life it may be helping alleviate feelings of loneliness, isolation and depression.
I know it’s helped my Dad tremendously and I thank God for Facebook and the new technology like Skype that allow him to be part of each of his kids and grandkids lives.
Facebook does not have to be Complicated
As a matter of fact, Dad has taken the Facebook course and has stamped it approved for baby boomers and seniors.
What does that stamp of approval mean? It means each video tutorial you have access to are easy to follow, extremely easy to understand and allowed him to immediately start using what he learned on Facebook.
He said that A PLUS for him was that I anticipated questions that he would have and I answered them within the video and in a way, he completely understood!
I know Dad is my Dad and you may be thinking that he is a little bias (he is but aren’t all parents ?) so here are what others have said about our Facebook training videos.
TESTIMONIALS
I’m very happy with this program. I have learned a lot already.

Hey Audrey,
Im trying to teach my mom how to use Facebook, but I live in OR and she lives in WA so its hard to explain things to her over the phone. I was looking for a Youtube video that would explain and show her how to use the features of Facebook and I found you! I was so excited to find something so perfect and easy to understand like your video.
